Hit By A Car – Seriously?!

I was walking to work today and I got hit by a car, sort of. Can you believe it?

I was walking from my house to the metro and I needed to cross the road. I went to an unlighted crosswalk and waited for cars to pass. I stepped into the crosswalk and made eye contact with the driver of an approaching van. He saw me and slowed so I continued walking.

The van came to a stop but the slats of hardwood flooring on the roof of the van did not. He had failed to secure them properly and they came pummeling down on me, knocking me to the ground.

I won’t go into all the details, other than to say I’m mostly okay with some bruises and abrasions. What I am most concerned about is the baby. Although it’s probably silly, I refuse to take any pain medications and I didn’t get an x-ray at the hospital. The ER doctor said that the baby is most likely just fine, that they are pretty well cushioned in there, but it’s a little scary. It was quite the jolt!

Clearly I’m going to have to up my game when walking around the city!
